What "dependant" generally means
Usually a spouse or partner, and children under 18 (with provisions for those already in the UK as dependants). You will need to evidence the relationship - marriage certificates, proof of a genuine and subsisting relationship, birth certificates - and meet financial requirements where the route specifies them.

Every dependant carries their own visa application fee and their own Immigration Health Surcharge for the full visa period, paid up front. The planning questions to settle early
- Can your partner work in their field in the UK, and does their profession need re-registration?
- School places. Admission is by local authority and is not guaranteed at a preferred school.
- Timing. Arriving together or in stages? Staged arrivals cost more in flights but less in immediate housing pressure.
- Housing. Family-sized rentals need larger deposits, and landlords often want references you will not have yet.
