"Is AI right for us?" is really two questions: is there a valuable use, and are we ready to run it well? A short readiness checklist answers both and tells you whether to move now, prepare first, or wait. Skipping this is how businesses buy tools they are not ready to use.
The readiness checklist
- Use case - is there a repetitive, valuable task AI could clearly help with?
- Data - do you have reasonably organised information for it to work on?
- People - is someone willing to run a pilot and check the output?
- Appetite - is leadership open to a small, measured experiment?
- Basics - do you have a simple rule for data and privacy?
Mostly "yes" means you are ready to start. A few "no"s show exactly what to fix first.
Ready, nearly ready, or wait
- Ready - run a small pilot on your best use case now
- Nearly ready - fix the one or two gaps (usually data or an owner), then start
- Wait - if there is no valuable use case yet, keep a watching brief rather than force it
This overlaps with deciding whether your company needs an AI strategy - readiness is the practical half of that question.
Do not confuse "not yet" with "never"
Waiting can be the right call today and the wrong one in six months. Revisit as your data, use cases and the market change.
The bottom line
AI is right for your business when there is a valuable use and you are ready to run it - the checklist tells you which. Learning to assess and close the gaps is part of the Strategic Application of AI in Business course at London School of Business UK. Enquire today.
