Plenty of businesses adopt AI because it feels overdue, not because they have a problem it solves. The honest answer to "do I need AI?" is: only if you have work that is repetitive, language- or data-heavy, and expensive in time. If you do not, a chatbot will not change your fortunes.
The 60-second test
Run down this list and count the yes answers:
- Do staff spend hours each week on repetitive reading, writing, sorting or looking things up?
- Do you sit on data (sales, tickets, documents) you never really analyse?
- Do customers wait longer than you would like for routine answers?
- Are competitors visibly faster or more personalised than you?
Three or four yeses means AI has a real target. Zero or one means fix the underlying process first - AI bolted onto a broken workflow just makes the mess faster.
Need is not the same as readiness
Needing AI and being ready for it are different questions. You can need it and still lack the data, the budget or the buy-in to use it well - which is why it helps to also work through whether your company needs an AI strategy rather than a single tool.
The bottom line
You need AI when a specific, costly, repetitive task is staring back at you from that list - not before. Learning to spot those opportunities and size them honestly is the core of the AI Strategy for Executives course at London School of Business UK. Enquire today.
