Every course claims to be practical, industry-led and career-changing. Some are. The trick is knowing which signals are hard to fake.
Signals that are hard to fake
Named practical output. Good courses state precisely what you will build: "an SEO audit of a real business", "a live ad campaign", "an automated email sequence". Vague courses say "hands-on learning experience".
Human feedback with limits stated. If real tutors mark real work, the provider will happily tell you class sizes. A cap - say, fifteen learners - is a quality signal precisely because it costs the provider money.
A current syllabus. Look for AI marketing tools, current platforms and this year's practices. A syllabus that could have been written in 2019 probably was.
Guarantees in writing. Anyone can promise "career outcomes". Check what is contractual. Digital Marketing in Practice guarantees a 12-week placement for every learner and states the terms on the course page, in print - that is the standard of specificity to demand from any provider.
Signals that are easy to fake
Testimonials (unverifiable), star ratings (gameable), "as featured in" logos, enrolment countdown timers, and salary claims for graduates. None of these tell you anything about the teaching.
The homework worth doing
Ask the twelve questions to ask before choosing a course, request a syllabus, and ask what happens if you fall behind. Providers confident in their teaching answer quickly and concretely.
The bottom line
Judge courses on what is specific, costly for the provider, and written down: named outputs, small classes, current tools, contractual guarantees. Everything else is marketing - which, once you finish a good course, you will be able to see straight through.
