Can Big Tech Companies in the UK Sponsor Indian Graduates?

Whether large technology employers sponsor, how their graduate hiring works, and how to approach it realistically.

Technology office with developers working

Yes - large technology employers in the UK generally hold sponsor licences and do sponsor. That is the easy part of the answer. The hard part is that their graduate intakes are among the most competitive hiring processes in the country.

How their hiring actually works

  • Structured graduate programmes with applications opening up to a year before the start date, often closing in the autumn for the following summer.
  • Multi-stage assessment: online tests, technical screens, coding assessments, and a final round or assessment centre.
  • Fixed intake windows. Miss the cycle and you wait a year.
  • Eligibility rules on graduation date, which can exclude you if you finished too long ago.

Where sponsorship fits

Most large technology employers will sponsor for roles that meet the thresholds. Some state it explicitly in graduate scheme materials; some assess it case by case. Ask early - a direct question to the recruitment team is normal and expected.

What they screen on

  1. Demonstrated technical ability. Assessments are the gate, and preparation for the specific format matters enormously.
  2. Shipped work. Repositories, projects, contributions - concrete evidence beats coursework.
  3. Internships, which is the pipeline many of them recruit from. Applying for an internship in your penultimate year is often a better route than applying for the graduate scheme directly.
  4. Structured behavioural answers, usually in STAR format.

The realistic advice

Apply, prepare properly, and do not build your plan solely around it. The base rate is low for everyone, domestic applicants included. Meanwhile, mid-sized technology firms, consultancies with technology practices, and technology teams inside non-technology companies - banks, retailers, healthcare providers - sponsor too, hire year-round, and are far less crowded.

The preparation that pays

Assessment practice, a small number of genuinely finished projects, and the ability to explain your decisions clearly in English under time pressure. The last one is underrated - see our Business English course.
