Can Luxury Brand Managers Work Remotely?

How much remote and hybrid work is realistic in luxury brand management, which roles are most flexible, and how to find them.

Remote work has changed many marketing careers, but luxury has been slower to adapt. Most luxury brand management roles today are hybrid rather than fully remote, typically with three or more days a week in the office, because the work depends on product, people and physical retail. Some related roles offer more flexibility.

Why luxury favours the office

  • Product is physical. Brand managers need to see, touch and approve samples, materials and packaging.
  • Retail matters. Store visits, window reviews and client events cannot be done from home.
  • Culture and discretion. Houses value in-person collaboration and tight control of confidential launches.
  • Creative teams. Close working with design and studio teams is easier face to face.

What hybrid looks like in practice

Many luxury companies operate a hybrid model, with set office days for meetings, reviews and launches and some home days for analysis, writing and planning. Expect more office time around launches, fashion weeks and peak trading.

Roles with more remote flexibility

  • E-commerce and digital marketing: content planning, analytics and campaign management.
  • CRM and data analytics: segmentation, reporting and personalisation.
  • Freelance and consulting: brand strategy consultants for smaller or emerging luxury brands.
  • Agency roles: some creative and digital agencies with luxury clients offer more flexibility.
  • Regional roles: covering several markets can mean working from a home base with travel.

Roles with less flexibility

Retail management, visual merchandising, product development, events and client relations are strongly location-based. Brand manager roles at headquarters usually fall in between.

How to find flexible luxury roles

  1. Filter job boards for "hybrid" or "remote" and your target brands.
  2. Look at digital, CRM and e-commerce teams, not only brand teams.
  3. Consider smaller and emerging luxury brands, which tend to be more flexible.
  4. Build freelance experience with independent brands; see can you start a luxury brand without formal education? for the founder's perspective.
  5. Ask about working patterns at the interview stage, politely and after showing commitment to the role.

Is remote work good for your luxury career?

Early in your career, time in the office and in stores accelerates learning and relationships. Remote flexibility is usually easier to negotiate once you have proven yourself. Read your first year in luxury brand management for what to prioritise.

Are there fully remote jobs in luxury brands?

They are uncommon for brand managers but more likely in e-commerce, CRM, data, digital marketing, agency and freelance consulting roles.

Do smaller luxury brands offer more flexibility?
