From £3,951AI courses in New Zealand fall into five broad types. Compare like with like before you compare prices.
| Course type | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| University postgraduate certificates and diplomas | Moving into a technical AI or data role, or needing a formal NZ qualification | Months to years of study, a higher cost and, often, maths or programming entry requirements |
| Polytechnic courses and micro-credentials | Practical AI skills with a recognised NZ credential | Many teach AI tools and techniques rather than the business decisions around them |
| Tool and vendor training, such as Copilot or ChatGPT workshops | Teams that need to use one tool well, quickly | Teaches the tool, not when AI is the right answer or how to govern it |
| Free online courses and webinars | Testing your interest and learning the vocabulary | Rarely include live teaching or work on your own organisation's decisions |
| Executive AI courses for leaders | Managers and executives deciding where AI fits, what it costs and how to govern it | Check the course is non-technical if you are, and that the session times work for you |
The courses on this page are the last type: AI courses for leaders, with no coding needed. If you want to build AI systems yourself, a technical university or polytechnic programme is the better fit. For more on that choice, read AI courses for leaders vs developers.
In July 2025 the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) published New Zealand's first national AI strategy, together with Responsible AI Guidance for Businesses. The guidance covers how organisations can adopt AI responsibly, including managing risk and meeting existing obligations such as the Privacy Act 2020. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has also published guidance on how the Information Privacy Principles apply to AI tools.
Deciding where AI fits, who is accountable and which risks to accept are leadership tasks, not coding tasks. AI Strategy for Executives helps you set direction, Data Strategy, Governance & Ethics for AI Professionals covers data governance and responsible use, and AI Risk Management & Security covers AI risk and controls. The courses teach frameworks you apply to your own organisation; they do not teach New Zealand law, so check your obligations against the guidance above.
For organisations
Most executive short courses can be delivered as corporate training for a group from one organisation, live online or on campus in London.
