AI strategy for executives: from use cases to a roadmap

How to judge an executive AI strategy course and apply it: who it suits, workload and cost, the choices to compare, a worked business case and the questions to ask before you enrol.

1. Understand the route

An AI strategy decides which business problems AI should help with, in what order, at what cost and under what controls. It is a business decision, not a technical one: the people who own it need to understand value, risk, data readiness and governance well enough to choose and challenge, not to build models.

LSBUK's AI Strategy for Executives is non-technical. It covers an AI vision aligned with strategy, a portfolio of use cases, the operating model, investment and ROI, governance and an executive roadmap. No coding, data science or technical background is needed, and the course is not a machine-learning or engineering certification.

2. Check fit, workload and cost

Who it suits. Executives, managers, founders and team leaders who own or influence AI decisions.

Workload. The course runs over 3 to 6 weeks, or as a self-paced online option, Live Online in UK time or on campus in London. Ask admissions for session times and expected weekly study.

Cost. The published fee is £492 for Live Online study or £1,583 in London.

3. Compare your choices

  • Strategy course or tools course. A tools course teaches you to use particular AI products; a strategy course helps you decide where AI belongs and how to govern it.
  • Build a strategy now or test first. A small pilot with explicit success and stop conditions often answers more than a long document. See how to test AI ideas before full investment.
  • Promised returns or honest measurement. Be wary of any fixed ROI claim. Measuring AI strategy success explains baselines, full costs and uncertainty.

4. Inspect a practical example

The AI use-case and business-case pack works through a fictional first-year case: £20,000 of expected benefit against £8,000 of implementation and £4,000 of annual running cost, a first-year ROI of 66.7% if the benefit is realised and the costs are complete, a downside case, the main risks and a pilot with success and stop conditions.

5. Ask the right questions before you enrol

  1. What are the session times, or how does the self-paced option work?
  2. Will I work on my own organisation's use cases during the course?
  3. How are governance, risk and data protection covered?
  4. What do I receive on completion?
  5. Is a corporate group format available for a leadership team?
